If you teach computing in an Early Years setting across the UK we’re here to help you.  

From this page, you can reach everything CAS has to offer, including access to free high-quality resources, support and guidance from our communities and a carefully curated set of links to trusted organisations.

CAS is a vibrant community of members supporting one another. One way in which members like to offer support is by sharing resources.  

Many of our members teach in an Early Years setting, such as Rachel Coultart (pictured) who has enjoyed being an active member of our community for many years, and contributed blog articles and resources.

Our library of CAS resources includes lesson plans, teacher-focused subject knowledge enhancers, assemblies, parent workshops... the list goes on, and on!

Barefoot Computing

Barefoot is CAS’ primary-focused partner project which provides free resources and CPD workshops for teachers across the UK. Barefoot includes resources specific to the Early Years settings and offers a free teacher CPD workshop dedicated to Early Years which can be booked here.   

To date, Barefoot has trained up over 90,000 teachers and reached over 3 million pupils with its workshops and resources.

At its heart, CAS is about teachers supporting teachers through our various communities. Here are the communities we offer and how to join them: 

Primary Community 

Our core communities are open to anyone across the UK with a shared interest around a theme. Thematic communities meet online roughly once a half term. Working with the CAS team, the volunteer leaders of these communities schedule the content of the meetings considering ‘hot topics’ around the theme and the needs’ of community members.  

Our Primary Community often covers topics relating to Early Years.

Local Communities 

CAS has a network of local communities across the UK run by our volunteer Community Leaders and specialising in offering relevant local support to teachers. Communities can either be primary (including Early Years) or secondary specialised, or focus on both – called ‘Mixed Communities’.

Another way to connect with our community is via our CAS Primary Facebook group. At the time of writing, the group has over 800 members sharing resources, support and guidance on all things computing related in primary schools, including in the Early Years setting.

Another way to connect with the CAS community is via our weekly Twitter takeover in the form of #CASChat via @CASChat_UK which happens every Tuesday at 8pm.  

Each week a set of 5 questions is released with everyone diving into a discussion organised using #CASChat. No invitation necessary so feel free to jump into the chat at any time or just lurk and learn.
