Hi everyone
We are an outreach team in the Department of Computer Science at City, St George’s, University of London. We are called Women++. One of our aims is to bring more diversity into Computer Science. We are very pleased to say that we have teamed up with British Computer Society to deliver Levelling Up CS
We are very excited about this programme and have got really amazing ambassadors supporting us. Please note your students do not have to do computer science A-Level to do this.
Levelling Up CS is a national programme designed to increase the participation of women in Computer Science. We know there’s a long‑standing gender gap in the subject, and this initiative aims to address that by giving young women meaningful and confidence‑building experiences with computing at a key decision point in their education.
The programme is aimed specifically at female A Level students and is delivered through university departments. By connecting students directly with City St George’s, we’re able to give them a real sense of what studying Computer Science looks and feels like beyond school.
The structure of the programme has two main components. This includes an on‑campus visit, which is an important opportunity for students to step into the university environment and meet the people who’ll be supporting them. They also take part in nine sessions throughout the June 29, 30 and 1st July 2026. Five of these sessions are academic and developed by BCS — and they will be delivered virtually, in person, or in a hybrid format. The other four are non‑academic sessions, forming part of the university’s broader outreach activities, helping students connect the subject to real pathways and opportunities.
A key part of the delivery model is that all sessions run in small tutorial groups led by female undergraduate tutors. This near‑peer approach helps make the subject relatable, gives students role models they can identify with, and builds a supportive environment where they feel comfortable asking questions and exploring ideas.
The students are are required to fill this form for registration: Microsoft Forms.
We look forward to hearing from you. Please feel free to contact me at ferheen.ayaz@city.ac.uk.

Invitation for CodeDay London
Hi Everyone,
We are running CodeDay London for the first time, on 2–3 May at Halkin, 10 Lower Thames Street. It is part of a global non-profit that has introduced over 500,000 young people to technology through hands-on, project-based events.
The event is completely free for students aged 13-18, and no prior coding experience is needed. Students form teams, pick an idea, build something, and present at the end of 24 hours with mentor support throughout. It’s designed specifically for beginners: if a student has never written a line of code, this is the event for them.
Completely free to attend, and a great opportunity for students to build something real, develop practical skills, and meet peers from across London.
Would love to have your students there!
