Resource Type Worksheets and Activities
Curriculum Topic Computational Thinking
English Key Stage 7-11 year (KS2)
Scottish Curriculum Levels P2-P4 (6-9 years), P5-P7 (9-11 years)

This resource is designed to help KS2 students take part in some fun activities that test their CT and digital literacy skills. The narrative is that students are pirates trying to unlock the treasure of a famous captain, which requires them solve five puzzles.

Appropriate for small groups of KS2 students and perhaps best to run outside of lesson time e.g. in a club or outreach event. From experience, the treasure hunt takes about 20-30 minutes. We originally ran this at a local Scouts group and then as part of the Cambridge festival in March 2024. Both were very enjoyable experiences for us and the players!

All the material needed to run the treasure hunt is in this Google Drive. This includes info on necessary equipment, prinouts, files, and potential adaptations to make things simpler.

If you end up running the treasure hunt, I'd love to know! Any feedback relating to the clarity of the instructions or the design of the puzzles will help to improve the activity.
