This resource pack aims to assist in the delivery of AQA GCSE Computer Science unit 5.
The resource pack does this through decomposing the unit into six smaller parts by collecting together the areas of the unit that logically fit together, and providing the resources required to deliver each of the six parts.
The six parts the unit has been decomposed into are:
- What is a network
- Types and topologies of networks
- Transmission protocols and addressing
- Application protocols
- Network layers
- Network security
Each of the six parts contains three key components to their delivery.

If you prefer visually seeing what the resource pack consists of, there is a 7-minute video here displaying each of the elements of the resource pack with suggestions of how to use the different elements.)
DoNow activities (Stater activities)
There are 87 questions spread across the six parts of the unit. Each question is on its own PowerPoint slide with a scripted answer to the question provided on the next slide.
Lessons (PowerPoints, worksheets, and Google Quizzes)
Each of the parts consists of: a PowerPoint initially used for teaching, then intended to be provided to pupils as a revision resource, in the notes section of each slide are questions with scripted answers for the teacher to ask when delivering that slide; worksheets (physical and digital versions) with scripted answers; self-marking Google Forms Quizzes.
Revision squares (For use after each part)
After each part has been delivered by the teacher there is a revision square for pupils to complete consisting of questions that cover the key content from that part.
Other resources (Optional to use)
There is a key vocabulary list providing all of the key vocabulary for the unit and their definition/purpose, as well as key diagrams from the unit.
Credits
Where necessary the PowerPoints contain images or text taken from internet-based resources (websites). In all of these cases, the images and text are freely available to be used for educational purposes and the websites they have been taken from are provided either in the notes of the slide the images or text are used on or if that was not possible in the notes of the final slide of the presentation.
