During the process of creating this list of inclusive assessment practices in assessing computing, the CAS Assessment Working Group identified a number of underpinning criteria:

  • reflect the professional experience and rigorous research findings;
  • inclusive of all pupils and students;
  • collaborative in its composition and editing;
  • approximately ten statements in total.

After extensive discussion and after scrutinising a plethora of academic papers, a whole wealth of information needed to be distilled and fashioned into ten succinct. As we were going through this process it became clear that:

  • a consideration of assessment and planning for computing were somewhat inseparable;
  • the information upon which the nine statements are based was the result of many hours of discussion; and
  • research and should be available, in some form, to our colleagues

Consequently, the Assessment Working Group has produced two complementary documents: one focusing on assessment and one on planning. We are now in the process of exploring how best to present for colleagues the comprehensive information which underpins each of the nine statements.

These resources represent the combination of professional experience and academic research; in their construction, the Assessment Working Group paid particular attention to the vocabulary used with the intention of vocabulary.

It is this vocabulary which we trust will become a common feature of inclusive assessment and planning discourse in computing. Editor: Julie Price edneurosci@gmail.com
