Year 6 Computing Schemes of Work

Schemes of work to be used with Upper KS2 students. The schemes of work were created for use with my Year 6 students in a middle school environment.
Level: (Beginner / Intermediate/ Advanced) The resources are accessible to all students.
Duration: (duration, if applicable) Each scheme of work includes detail for a half terms worth of lessons - between 6 and 8 weeks in length.
Teaches: (set of concepts learned)
•6.1- E-Safety, Web design. Social Network dangers, use www.wix.com to design a website to promote E-Safety when using Social media networks.
•6.2- Animation (Fireworks) Introduction to stop frame animation using fireworks. A brief history of Animations and their uses. Focus on accuracy and small movements to ensure animation looks good. Students have to research animations and their uses.
•6.3- Real world programming (Physical programming with Lego We Do) Using scratch to simulate real world programming such as traffic lights, use lego we do kits to model and show physical programming for motors. Optional use of makey makey kit.
•6.4- Graphics (Photoshop and Fireworks) Manipulating and creating images. (Focus on using images, copyright and permissions of others) Students to design and create a calendar explaining how they have created and edited images and the tools they have used.
•6.5- Spreadsheets and Databases Focus on business use of spreadsheets and databases (phonebooks on phone and mailing lists etc.) use spreadsheets and databases to model business use and use of basic functions such as (SUM, AVERAGE and calculations) Look at IF queries and nested if queries.
•6.6- Sound (Garage Band and Audacity) Creating and editing sounds using a variety of software, using iPad (garage band) to create audio and transfer this to the computer and edit using Audacity.
If used in conjunction with year 5 schemes of work, this will cover all of the requirements for KS2 Computing
