KS2 - Year 5 Schemes of work

Schemes of work I use with my Year 5 Computing classes. The schemes of work are designed to be run over a half term.(most units are flexible to last between 6 and 8 weeks). I tend to use lots of free resources/tools both to teach with and for software to use with the students.
Level: (Beginner / Intermediate/ Advanced) The units of work are designed to be usable with all abilities.
Duration: (duration, if applicable) 6 - 8 weeks with 1 lesson per week.
Teaches: (set of concepts learned)
•5.1- E-Safety, Networks and Office Programs. Keeping information safe and secure, how to access the schools computer systems and navigate the network to create, save and edit files. Use of folder structures and using office programs.
•5.2- What is the internet and how do we use it? How the internet works, hardware and software required to access the internet and uses of the internet including how to search for information effectively (basic Boolean searches and advanced search)
•5.3- Introduction to Programming (Code Academy and ipads) What programming is, introduction to keywords such as algorithm. Basic visual programming with pre-defined instructions (direct through mazes and bee bots app, move onto apps such as Hakitsu and cargo bot.
•5.4- Using the Internet for Productivity (Web 2.0 Applications) Introduce how the internet allows users to collaborate and have networks within a business. Introduce freeware available on the internet such as google docs, wix and soundation to create, share and collaborate.
•5.5- Scratch Programming Introduction to scratch create a basic game (dodge a character game)
•5.6- Creating a website (Charity Campaign) Use www.wix.com to create a website for a chosen charity to promote a campaign. Focuses on designs of website (colour schemes and logos) and hyperlinks.
