The Scratch Phone Challenge
Downloaded: 2
Last edit: 05 November 2021
The challenge is to create a working simulation of a mobile phone using Scratch (although this could be adapted for elements of other languages)
Level:
Intermediate/ Advanced Level can be adapted; weaker students could be given a 'starter' version with some elements started and their task is then to design and create just one of the apps.
Duration:
2 weeks/6 lessons but is flexible; depends on the abiltiy of the students and the number of apps that you want them to complete.
Teaches:
Design - how to adapt and create graphical elements
User Interface - What are rhe requirements for a successful user interface and how they can be implemented in Scratch.
Scratch programming - Covers a wide range of skills and the apps will determine the level of difficulty; so these could be set by the teacher to include suitable elements.
Support:
There are a number of Scratch phone adaptations available on the Scratch website. I found that using these to demonstrate when starting students off was needed for younger students or when using with students on general ICT courses. The one used here is a variation on one of those. I have used it to get weaker students started and latecomers on task quickly
