A unit of work designed for pupils in their first year of secondary school that introduces some basic programming constructs and ideas within the context of animation. The unit culminates in a practical assessment that involves pupils creating an animated version of a talent show called the Scratch Factor.

License: Unfortunately the materials were produced under contract for Perth and Kinross council and prior written permission is needed from the education department of the council before they can be used directly in another local authority. Individual ideas and exercises can be used if they've been suitably altered.

Level: Beginner

Duration: 11-12 lessons (50 minute periods)

Teaches: Sequencing, fixed repetition, events, parallel execution and predefined scratch blocks for movement, looks and sound. Introduces storyboarding as a design technique and reinforces co-ordinates, angles and script writing
