What the examiner rewards, topic by topic. Ready for September.

A level results day is coming this week, and GCSE results follow soon after. The mark schemes and examiner reports published alongside them are the most useful documents most departments often don't have time to properly read. They say, in specific terms, which questions were handled well and which were not, how marks were actually awarded, and what separates the answers that scored from the ones that did not.

CodeBash has just published two resources built around that work.

The first is The Examiner's Eye: a complete set of topic packs for every topic on OCR J277 and AQA 8525 at GCSE, and the full OCR H446 and AQA 7517 A-Level specifications. Each pack sets out how marks are awarded: what earns them, where they are lost, and what a full-mark answer looks like next to a half-mark one. 

The second is The Misconception Atlas, in Python and C# editions. Most programming mistakes come from a small number of wrong beliefs. The Atlas maps them across KS3, GCSE and A-Level, names each one, explains why pupils hold it, and gives a diagnostic and a reteach. Free to download by email.

If either is useful for planning September, I would value knowing which topics your classes understand but still lose marks on.
