The Scratch Conundrum: Use it, lose it or adapt it.
Local Community
Online
People have loved using Scratch coding for over 10 years. Block based coding in a creative environment where students and families can share what they create across the world.
However, some schools. MATS and LA's are blocking use or suggesting it is not used.
A couple of comments to Richard Smith this month have been
- my school don't let me use it
- some of the games and comments seem inappropriate
- the students just use it to access Roblox type games created on Scratch
During this session you will be provided with
- Solutions suggested by schools to minimize risks
- Ideas from the Computing at School community that provide opportunities and alternatives
- An update on what the Scratch foundation are doing to support educators and families
- The opportunity to share ideas and to ask questions
The session will be run by CAS member Richard Smith who works in 3 schools a week to support the appropriate use of innovative technology. He is the founder of AmazingICT and an associate of an LA to provide advice for SEND (via the Assistive Technology Lending Library DFE pilot).
Come prepared with coffee/tea to share ideas with a supportive community.
