More than half children in the UK are now using AI tools to some extent. However, tools that provide plausible answers, generate realistic-looking synthetic content, offer convincing recommendations, or even make decisions on the user’s behalf can undermine children’s independence and sense of agency. How do we support our learners to engage with such tools meaningfully and intentionally?
In the CHAILD project, a partnership between the University of Oxford and University College London, we are working to develop AI applications that would help children and young people make informed decisions on their own and implement them meaningfully.
In this presentation, I will share some thoughts, examples, resources, and questions that we have encountered so far. Participants will be invited to reflect together on the implications and consequences for their learners.

This session will be led by Vidminas Vizgirda from University of Oxford.
