Implement your vision for Computing - Initiate change, make a difference
Working as a lead teacher for IT/Computing in a secondary school is difficult at the best of times. How many other subjects have to justify their own existence in the curriculum? This is further compounded when you need to implement a school-wide strategy or you have identified a need. Often you are on your own, you are the 'expert'. So where do you find that support, that guidance and that opportunity for reflection? What are the essential skills you need to initiate change?
Influence - I have the capacity to have an effect on the character, development, or behaviour of someone or something, or the effect itself.
Confidence - I have the feeling or belief that one can have faith in or rely on someone or something
Resilience - I have the capacity to recover quickly from difficulties
Interdependence - I can effectively work with others and have the ability to utilise the dependence of two or more people.
Interference - I can determine actions that are required when plans are being interfered with by other factors.
Empathy - I am patient have self control and I have the ability to understand and share the feelings of another
This programme will help and support you to develop and utilise those skills It won't have all the answers, that's not how this works. This programme aims to help you develop, implement and evolve your computing provision for your students. In your school, It will help you find the answers you need to make a difference in the computing provision for young people in your school.
CAS, in support of the NCCE, has created this programme to support Teachers, Heads of Department, and Senior Leaders to develop essential skills for developing and implementing strategies to improve teaching and learning in GCSE Computing Science.
It is focused on these three key areas:-
- To improve the uptake by students taking GCSE Computer Science
- To improve results in existing GCSE Computer Science cohorts
- To improve levels of diversity and inclusion at GCSE Computer Science
This is aimed at addressing the OFSTED identified issue in schools that:-
"All pupils must have the opportunity to study aspects of information technology and computer science at sufficient depth to allow them to progress to higher levels of study or to a professional career.” as evidence suggests this is often ignored
Our CAS Coaches will guide you through a series of reflections through the tools of effective questioning. Use these conversations to help identify the essential skills you need to use, develop, and implement to achieve your goals.
