BCS Branches

As part of its commitment to building a strong professional community, BCS supports a network of regional member branches across the UK. These local groups provide opportunities for members to connect, share knowledge, and get involved in events and activities relevant to their area. Whether you're looking to expand your professional network, attend local talks and workshops, or contribute to the wider digital community, your nearest BCS branch is a great place to start. Teachers in Greater Manchester :backhand_index_pointing_down:

52% of UK employers say young people leave education without the digital skills they need.*

We want to change that.

That’s why we’ve created the Certificate in Applied Computing, a free programme where young people learn digital and computing skills that open doors to great jobs.

The certificate is developed in partnership with the Greater Manchester Combined Authority and some of the region’s biggest employers.

Made for Greater Manchester schools :school:
Focused on the digital skills needed for jobs :briefcase:
Students learn online – no class time needed :laptop:

Hi Everyone

Hulme Grammar (Oldham) are hosting the first (of what we hope will become an annual event) Hackathon - the event is aimed at pupils in years 6 to 13, with any experience of software development. We already have support from Purpleai, a Swedish AI development platform called Lovable and Nominet.

If any of your local schools would like to enter a team, I can send over further information. We are also looking for further sponsorship (or gifts in kind) for the swag bags and prizes for the teams. Again, I can send over further information on this.

The general plan for the day is 10 hours of development (pupils working in teams of up to 5) with support from professional developers. Over lunch (provided), a panel discussion about computer science, AI, uni applications, etc., and to end the day, a show and tell to parents and supporters.

Prizes are available for the teams that make the “most progress”. A rubric will be issued on the day with the judging criteria.

If you would like further information, please contact S Norbury via email digital@hulmegrammar.org
