Equestrian
Equestrian events have been included in the Olympics since 1912.  There are currently three horse riding events included in the Games.  These are show jumping, dressage and three day eventing.
Both individual and team medals are available in all three disciplines. Team and individual competitions run simultaneously.
Show jumping involves jumping over a variety of fences (usually at least 6 feet high).  Points are gained by knocking down fences or not completing the course within an allocated time.  The winner is the rider with the least points. In event of a tie riders will ‘jump off’ against each other with the winner being the fastest clear round.
Dressage involves making controlled moves on your horse will carrying out set patterns.  Points are awarded for the precision at which the horse completes its routine.
Eventing involves show jumping, dressage and the addition of a cross country course.  Cross country fences are large solid objects which can’t be knocked down.  Riders must complete the course within a set period of time (without falling off)
