Tech Jargon Buster
We know that there can be quite a lot of specific terminology surrounding computing and technology more generally. So we’ve put together a quick tech jargon buster to help you get to grips with some of the “jargon”!

Unplugged | A Computing activity that does not need a computer. |
Plugged | A Computing activity that uses a computer. |
Remote Learning / Home Teaching | Teaching taking place away from the traditional school environment. |
Home learning | Activities and support that families can use at home. |
Online Learning | Activities that can be undertaken using the Internet. |
Online Safety | Staying safe when using the Internet, including an awareness of the risks that exist online and what to do if in danger. |
Cyber Bullying | Bullying taking place in an online environment |
Digital Literacy | Being able to use the common features of a computer and software. |
Programming / Coding | Giving a set of instructions to a computer to perform various tasks (n.b. The terms Programming and Coding are often used interchangeably, although there is a subtle distinction, as described here) |
