CAS Community meetings are currently taking place online and details of upcoming events can be found on the CAS events page. Some meetings are now scheduled to take place during the working day, which provides more opportunities to find a suitable time to attend. Many of the events scheduled for the coming weeks focus on remote education and associated technologies.

New to CAS

If you’ve never attended a CAS Community event before, meetings bring together educators who wish to share their ideas for developing the teaching of computing in their schools, their classrooms and their community. It is a meeting of like-minded professionals with the general objective of supporting each other and the specific aim of providing (at least) one idea that can be taken and tried in the classroom. Further information about CAS Community Meetings.

EdTech Demonstrator Schools

The Department for Education recently announced the names of twenty schools, including a number of NCCE Hubs, that had been successful in their bid to become EdTech Demonstrator schools. The programme, which was initially created to share best practice in school technology usage, has been refocused in the short term to provide support with remote education. For further information, including how to register for support

Much of the support from EdTech Demonstrator schools will focus on Google and Microsoft’s remote education technologies. Both organisations also have dedicated pages for schools, which include opportunities for online CPD related to distance learning, here - and here - Future Learn also have free online courses on “How to teach online” here -

Every Tuesday at 8pm (UK time), a member of the CAS community hosts an online Twitter chat using the #caschat hashtag. A topic related to computing and technology usage in schools is selected each week, with like-minded educators coming together online to share advice and best practice. Many of the chats over the next few weeks focus on remote learning, so keep an eye on social media, including the dedicated Twitter account @caschat_uk for further information.
