BCS has been working in partnership with Education Scotland, with support from Microsoft, to enable 14 teachers in Scotland to undertake their CPD Award in Computing Studies and a further 15 are undertaking the Additional Teaching Qualification: Computing Studies for Teachers. The courses are being delivered by Inverness College, University of the Highlands and Islands (UHI). Another self-funding cohort for both programmes has also just started. Gordon MacPherson, Programme Leader for the CPD Award in Computing Studies for Teachers at inverness College, UHI said that this has only been possible because of the support provided by BCS, Education Scotland, and Microsoft to develop the CPD award course and fund places for both programmes. Once their CPD training is complete, teachers will also be awarded the BCS Certificate in Computing Science Teaching (Scotland).
The students have enjoyed the online asynchronous nature of the delivery and the opportunity to create materials they could use in the classroom as assessments for the modules. They also enjoyed the support of their lecturers and each other through online chats and tutorials.
