CAS is delighted to support Neon, a new website for teachers, career co-ordinators and school leaders that launched on 29 September 2020. Neon, powered by the team behind Big Bang and Tomorrow’s Engineers, has worked with teachers and the engineering community to bring brilliant inspiration to students through experiences and resources. CAS and its teacher members have been involved in the development of the resources and have sat on the steering committee for the Neon programme. Neon also features the BCS Careers Inspiration videos as a showcased experience on the new site and a BT Apprentice Software Engineer, Allanah, features in one of the Brilliant Engineers case study films.
The Neon experiences have been curated by Engineering UK to meet key quality criteria to be fully inclusive, articulate learning outcomes and meet health and safety and data protection standards. All experiences are aligned to careers information, help teachers meet national careers education guidance (including Gatsby Benchmarks) and will help teachers showcase real-world applications to future engineers.
The choice of content available gives schools access to a wide range of digital and real-world experiences and resources to do now or help teachers plan their use over the academic year. Neon also illustrates how the engineering sector has responded to the challenges of 2020 by adapting familiar programmes and creating inspiring digital experiences to enhance the existing engineering outreach opportunities.
To celebrate the launch, there are also films from teachers giving tips to colleagues about how they work to inspire their students, and a set of films from early-career engineers. These films aim to break stereotypes around a career in engineering. To find out more, visit Neon now and follow Neon on Facebook and Twitter.
