Barefoot have recently launched
Pizza Party; a five-lesson resource that introduces 9 to 11-year-old pupils to
data and spreadsheet modelling. It includes collection, analysis and evaluation
of data, and it's using something nearly every 9 to 11-year-old can understand:
Throughout the five lessons,
pupils will work together using spreadsheet modelling to prepare for and plan a
pizza party for the class. To help facilitate this, Barefoot are providing the
first 200 primary schools who request a Barefoot workshop using the code
'PIZZA' with a pizza box full of goodies and a £25 voucher. The box includes a
poster, stickers, a lesson overview, a recipe card, a shopping list and a
chef's hat that support the Pizza Party resource. The Barefoot workshop is for
teachers and focuses on computational thinking, providing an interactive tour
of our free resources and the Barefoot website. You can find out more here.
Once your school has had the
workshop, you will be provided with the gift voucher that can be used to
purchase the ingredients for making your own pizzas. This has been done to
ensure that primary schools, no matter what their budget, have a chance to
enjoy a pizza party. There are also suggestions provided on the recipe card of
how to take part if your school doesn't have cooking facilities.
If your school has already had a
Barefoot workshop you can still get involved to by downloading the resource.
Every week from 6 May 2019 until 28 June 2019, a prize draw will take place
with 5 winning schools chosen at random. The winners will then be sent their
own pizza box and £25 voucher to further support the Pizza Party resource.
As with all other Barefoot
resources, this is fully curriculum aligned and completely free. This campaign,
with its inclusive incentives, is designed to draw attention to data - an often
overlooked, yet crucial element of computing. Pizza Party makes data not only
relatable, but exciting. And the promise of delicious homemade pizza means that
pupils will stay engaged right until the end.
You can register and download the resource from the Barefoot website.
