Computing At School, in association with Microsoft UK, are delighted to announce a course for new and aspiring Heads of Computing in secondary schools.
We all want our pupils to experience an aspirational curriculum for computing that develops their knowledge, their skills and above all their interest in the subject but this can be hard when we're struggling to keep abreast of the subject ourselves! This two-day course will help to plug some of those gaps and will help teachers who are in the early days of establishing the subject in their school to encounter engaging lessons and how they can be integrated into an inspirational scheme of work.
The course will be delivered across two days (the first in late Autumn or early Spring term; the second in the Summer term) in a number of locations in England.
On day 1, subtitled "Lighting the Spark", you will learn how to design an exciting, engaging and inclusive curriculum for your learners/pupils with the core concepts explained, key topics covered and an engaging narrative created as part of a scheme of work to ensure appropriate progression to Key Stage 4. You will be introduced to a variety of resources and begin to consider the pedagogy that each of the resources utilise and how the pedagogy can be applied to your learners to ensure that each pupil achieves regardless of gender or need.
An essential feature of this course will be a personalised development project. This will be a small-scale assignment which enables delegates to apply learning from the programme to their own situations situations in their school. We will be supporting you at every step with this project through a series of on-line webinars to be held during the Spring term.
Day 2, subtitled "Fanning the Flames", will build on the first day and develop discussions arising out of the webinar series. You will be introduced to a variety of ideas to develop computing in your school and put it on the "school map" as well as an in-depth consideration of using the Micro:bit in new and exciting way so your pupils see computing as one part of the bigger STEM picture.
It promises to be a full programme! There is more information here.
