Here's a short video introduction to a more in depth professional development session available for all teachers of Computing. This video is a quick paced flyover of the session and it's activities, as well as how it can enable teachers to further progress their pupils learning of Computer Science in Key Stage 3.
This session introduces some of the barriers for pupils when transitioning to text and some activities and approaches to help them overcome some of the barriers that might get in their way during this transition; all done through investigations and approaches to teaching and learning in KS3.
The main focus of this video is:
- Applying the key concepts required to write programs
- Recognising the 3 key constructs in every program
- Becoming familiar with flowcharts articulating the constructs
- Considering some challenges posed by text based coding
