Congratulations to Toby Osborne, leader of CAS Ferndale Mixed Community and teacher at Ferndown Upper School, Dorset. Toby has received a Silver Pearson National teaching Award, for Digital Innovator of the Year.
The award recognised his work to drive up engagement in computing and Toby has previously been cited as an example of excellent practice by an All-Party Parliamentary Group. His citation for the Silver award states:
"Toby has secured £200,000 in funds for his computing department over the past few years, providing incredible computing resources and two custom laboratories which now work with the National Centre of Computing Education’s (NCCE) to deliver computing teacher CPD and support.
"In 2018 he founded fernDOWNLOAD, an extracurricular programme to drive engagement in digital and physical engineering, which won national and regional awards in coding and robotics, and has driven up girls’ participation in computer science tenfold."
Here at CAS we're delighted that Toby's innovation has been recognised.
Julia Adamson, Director of Education at BCS, the Chartered Institute for IT, said; "Huge congratulations to Toby on your Teaching Award! I’m sure the whole Computing at School community will join me in congratulating you on your success, which highlights your innovation and commitment to delivering a high quality computing education. "
