South West

Welcome to CAS Regional Centre South West

The School of Computing, Electronics and Mathematics (SoCEM) at Plymouth University has a long tradition of supporting local teaching staff for computing related subject knowledge. For over 10 years members of staff from within the school have been involved in outreach activities, going into schools to deliver talks and practical sessions. These activities have either been carried out as part of personal contacts or through the Research Centres, such as CSCAN, that are part of the University. Events have included evening meetings, invitations to project showcase days, specific computing taster days, residential events, competitions for year 8s, Safer Internet Day and Security related days.

Over the last couple of years, SoCEM has initiated and supported the CAS Hub for Plymouth bringing the CAS initiative into the region. Close collaboration with the original Master Teachers, along with colleagues in the Plymouth Institute of Education allowed the University to support the start of the centre.

The Regional Centre is made up of a team of 3 people from Plymouth University. These are Shirley, an academic from SoCEM with advanced subject knowledge alongside Sophie who works part time supporting the administrative side and Beverly who works part time as Outreach support for teachers across the region.
