Welcome to CAS Regional Centre South East

The South East Regional Centre is run as a collaboration between two key institutions within University of Southampton, combining significant experience and expertise in computing and in professional development:

  • Electronics and Computer Science (ECS) - ECS is a global leader in electronics and electrical engineering, computer science and IT, placed first in the UK for the volume and quality of research in Electrical and Electronic Engineering. 100% of Computer Science research impact is recognised as world-leading or internationally excellent (REF 2014). ECS is first in the UK for Electronics and Electrical Engineering and sixth for Computer Science and IT (Guardian University Guide 2016 and Times/Sunday Times Good University Guide 2015). ECS has supported CAS activity through its Master Teachers since its inception, hosting Hub meetings and conferences at the university and contributing expertise from staff and students. Staff involved from ECS include senior staff and staff with both a research and school teaching background in computing.
  • Mathematics and Science Learning Centre (MSLC) – provides professional development in STEM and Computing in the South of England. The Centre and its staff have extensive experience in running professional development across all 19 LAs in the South East and have an excellent understanding of the issues in the region, including the geography and specific issues. MSLC runs subject knowledge enhancement programmes in computing.
  • MSLC is part of Southampton Education School – Dr John Woollard, who is a Teaching Fellow in the School, is a leading light in computing education, and is a Board member of CAS and academic lead for Barefoot Computing.
  • In the last year, CAS South East hosted BBC Micro:bit Roadshows, delivered a range of professional development for teachers of Computing including an Awarding Organisation event, offered a subject knowledge enhancement programme in Computing and supported Hubs in the region. If you would like to request support from the Centre, please get in touch.
